Understanding and creating Technorati tags
I saw this web site had some technorati tags in his blog entry, and it bothered me enough that I decided to look into it.
I'ved tried before to figure out how to crack the Technorati nut. I tried pinging their site with my blog entries, but I always get error messages for my effort. Searching their website for a clue is useless, as their web site bites the big one. (Evenutally, I did find this on their site.) I decided to see if I could figure out how to do it using alternate resources.
I googled the web and found these, which seem promising:

http://blogs.msdn.com/alexbarn/archive/2005/02/27/381400.aspx
So, I'm including the following Technorati tag in this post:
<a href="http://www.technorati.com/tag/peenie+wallie" rel="tag">Peenie Wallie</a> |
I'll check back at Technorati later and see if it worked.
Update: I checked at Technorati, and it said it didn't have any "Peenie Wallie" technorati tags, but generated the code I should use to submit a "Peenie Wallie" technorati tag. It differed slightly from my tag, so I modified my tag as follows:
<a href="http://technorati.com/tag/peenie wallie" rel="tag">Peenie Wallie</a> |
Update: OK. Still no dice. It hasn't found my "Peenie Wallie" tag. (Surprise. Surprise.) But, I did find a page on their site that explains how to ping them. It indicates that I should put "http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping" into my MovableType setup of sites to ping. But, I checked under Manage - WEBLOG CONFIG - Preferences, and I'm already configured to ping "technorati.com". So, I'm not clear what the deal is.
So, I sent an email to support@technorati.com asking them what the deal is.
Update: It's working now. It took them a few hours to figure it out, but it's working now. I have a technorati tag. So, the theory is that you should put them in all of your blogs, but I had to figure out how to get them to work at all, first. ;)
