Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page
With Firefox 1.5.0.1, when I go to this site, I keep getting a nag screen saying "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page". So, I click on "Install Missing Plugins", it the Plugin Finder Server - Available Plugin Downloads shows "The following plugins are available - Apple Quicktime". So, I click on "Next", but then it says "No plugins were installed - Apple Quicktime not available." So, I click manual install, and it claims it installed successfully, but I still get the nag screen.
Then, I found this web site which seems to be somewhat related.
I went to the address bar and put "about:plugins" and it showed me all of the plugins for Firefox 1.5.0.1. The "QuickTime Plug-in 7.0.4" is listed 5 times. And they're all enabled. From npqtplugin.dll to npqtplugin5.dll. Apparently, each entry works for different file types. Anyhoo, the plugin seems to be installed and enabled. But, when I go to this site, I still get the nag. Possibly their code to detect the plugin is written incorrectly? Dunno.
(Continued in extended entry...)
This site suggest going to "Tools > Page Info : Media". So, I did, and it does give you a lot of information.
For the "object" 78798016ced3e9d5e835622fba236d70.mp3, the media preview window shows a broken icon. So, this may possibly be the problem. This "object" is an mp3 file, and I'm definitely not getting any audio.
This site seems to describe the problem, and provides another site that has the same plugin nag issue.
I don't see anything associated with a .mp3 file extension under my plugins.
There is a Quicktime Alternative plugin, that I have installed before. Possibly this is causing my problem.
I decided to update my version of Java, so I went to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Java Plug-In, Update tab, and clicked "Update Now" and it installed the Java JSE Runtime Environment 5.0 Versioon 6. The update seems to have worked. Now, when I click "Update Now", it says "You have the latest Java(TM) Platform on this system.
I found this web site
, and I was going to launch QuickTime, when I noticed that I still have the QuickTime Alternative installed. So, I uninstalled it. Of couse, this didn't help.
Then, I uninstalled iTunes/QuickTime, and then reinstalled it, and, voila! Now, it's working! So, apparently the QuickTime Alternative plugin was causing my problem. Who'd have thought?

It's likely NOT QT alternative that's causing the actual problem; but rather just the plugin associations that are messed up. And by installing the entire iTune/QT package, it fixed it because you wiped everything clean and installed a fresh copy over it. Another thing may be the coexistence of both the official QT and QT alternative may cause issues too. Well, glad you have it fixed; I'm off to find a way to fix the plugin situation (hopefully).

Yeah, this is a fair point. It's possible that you can get the QT alternative and the QT Official to peacably coexist. Possibly, I could get just QT alternative to work on its own successfully. This just something that I personally wanted to pursue. I just wanted the stupid message to go away. I wish you the best in your endeavor. Post back here if you come up with a solution. :)
