Sometimes An Island
Yet another pointless slideshow. This one has some shots of Lake Dillon's Silver Dollar Island, which is sometimes an island. When the water gets low, it's connected to land by a thin isthmus. Even if the lake is full, you can walk across the ice to the island nine months out of the year. But I digress...
These are some images I shot over the last few weeks with the Canon EOS 20D, Canon 17-85mm lens, a circular polarizing filter, and a Bogen tripod with a pistol grip. There's no real meaning to the presentation, so don't read too much into it. I'm experimenting with shooting some winter landscape photography, so a lot of the images are in black and white because there's not much color to begin with, and the black/white effect makes them a little more stark, IMHO.
This slideshow is an 29 Meg self-playing executable named bandwitch.exe created using Imagematics StillMotion PE. Soundtrack is Bandwitch by Broken Social Scene, a loose association of freaks up in Canada.
Click here to download the presentation. If you have an Apple, or if you're nervous about running a .exe file from my site, then click here to download the Macromedia Flash version. The resolution is not quite as good on the Macromedia Flash version, and you can't pause and go backward and forward, but it loads faster, and it's a fairly decent presention. Click here if you need help.
Lyrics in the extended entry.
Broken Social Scene
Bandwitch
(Put the little kids in the corner with their face and their eyes in the corner)
My favorite band, is a witch.
Find themselves in poet corners, and they still like to dick.
It’s of course, they’re afraid. It’s a fine, complicate.
You can find, demonstrate. Slip along, demon ways.
My favorite band, is a witch.
Find themselves with perfect mornings, and they still try to live.
The menstration. Pull it surprised a masterbation. A little morning cries
I wish on thievery of corners. Admit the cries I know he’s saying I know he’s saying so tired
They’ll have to put the little kids in the corner with there eyes and face on the floor.
You’re so f**ked up now. You’re f**ked up now.
Put the little kids in the corner with there eyes and face on the floor.
Put the little kids in the corner with there eyes and face on the floor.
I know you want me to keep on going
You want me to keep on going.
And you know wherever I am..

Can't remember how I first found your blog. Really enjoy your photography. Would you be able to recommend a good STARTER digital camera or the specs I should look for? I've had the bug for a long time and I think I might be good at it, but I don't want to blow a wad to find out I'm no good.

Chick Voice - I don't currently have a specific camera that I would recommend. They change too fast, and I'm out of the game somewhat, as I'm happy with what I have just now. However, I can tell you what I would recommend looking for as a starter digital camera:
1)lag time to take a photo - this is the time delay between when I push the button and the time the camera finally takes a photo. (See the Timings & File Sizes chart of the Sony DSC-S85(sucks) on the DPReview site for an example of the delay I'm referring to.
2) Strong optical zoom (ignore digital zoom. worthless.
3) size of camera
4) megapixels (the more the better)
5) go to the web site www.dpreview.com. They have a buying guide, feature comparisons, reviews, etc. Can't go wrong here. Good, objective, in depth reviews of every camera ever made. Oh. And don't get the Sony DSC-S85. Or the Canon Pro-1. They both suck. :)
