One December
This slideshow is composed of original images I shot over one weekend in the foothills of Colorado in December of 2006. All photos were captured using a Canon EOS 20D and a Canon EF 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens.
This slideshow (4:16) is a 7 Meg self-playing executable named RainKing.exe created using Imagematics StillMotion PE+. Soundtrack is Rain King by Counting Crows, off of the August And Everything After album. (This album contains many references to Saul Bellow's novel Henderson the Rain King).
Click here to download the presentation. If you have an Apple, or you're running Unix, or if you're nervous about running a .exe file from my site, then click here to download the Macromedia Flash version. The resolution is not quite as good on the Macromedia Flash version, and you can't pause and go backward and forward, but it loads faster, and it's a fairly decent presention. Click here if you need help.
Lyrics in the extended entry.
Rain King Lyrics
Artist: Counting Crows
Album: August And Everything After
When I think of heaven (Deliver me in a black-winged bird)
I think of flying down into a sea of pens and feathers
and all other instruments of faith and sex and God
In the belly of a black-winged bird
Don't try to feed me
I've been here before and I deserve a little more
I belong in the service of the Queen I belong anywhere but in between
She's been crying I've been thinking And I am the Rain King
Mama, why am I so alone?
I can't go outside
I'm scared I might not make it home
I'm alive but I'm sinking in
If there's anyone at home at your place
Why don't you invite me in
Don't try to bleed me
I've been there before and I deserve a little more
I belong in the service of the Queen
I belong anywhere but in between
She's been lying
I've been sinking
And I am the Rain King
Hey, I only want the same as anyone
Henderson is waiting for the sun
Oh, it seems night endlessly begins and ends
After all the dreaming I come home again...
When I think of heaven (Deliver me in a black-winged bird)
I think of dying Lay me down in a field of flame and heather
Render up my body into the burning heart of God in the belly of a black-winged bird
Don't try to bleed me
I've been here before and I deserve a little more
I belong in the service of the Queen
I belong anywhere but in between
She's been dying
I been drinking and I am the Rain King.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I'm just getting started in the photography world. I've been looking into a Canon XTi and a couple of lenses. I stumbled across your site. I really like some of your pictures. I seem as if some of our photographic vision is similar. Anyway thanks for sharing the photos.

Hey,
Found you through google blog search because you mentioned Counting Crows so I assume you are a fan. I did some writing about the band recently which I’m putting up on my blog in 5 parts.
Check it out if you want to:
