School Pictures
Jennifer's third grade school picture. Note that I didn't take this school picture, and I'm not all that enamored with it. Notice, for instance, that her left elbow is almost as large as her face. This is caused by having the camera lens too close to the subject, so that objects increase in size non-linearly as they get closer to the lens.
This peculiar phenomenon is demonstated fairly well by the classic Robert Crumb illustration "Keep on Truckin'".
The solution to this is to back the lens up a few feet and zoom in. This keeps the body parts in a more familiar perspective, without distorting proportions.

And how do you feel about the fact that these are 3rd graders having "Glamor Shots" made. With lip stick no less. What's wrong with looking like a nine year old. Is the school promoting the attempt to make 9 yr olds look like 15 year olds?Welcome to the World of Public Schools where indoctrination is constantly on-going.

Well, OK. I asked her if she was wearing lipstick for this photo, and she confirmed that she did. But, her mom put it on her and I'm not really one to take a big stand on this issue. If she wants to wear lipstick, then so be it. I've got bigger fish to fry. She doesn't wear lipstick at my house. At my house, she drives a 4-wheeler, weilds a chainsaw, and is a mean shot with a rifle.
