Postcards from the Fall: Wish You Were Here
I've been riding the XR around the Colorado Rockies for a few days, trying to snap a few shots of the fall before the snows of winter set in. Mostly, I've been riding around Clear Creek and Gilpin Counties. This fall has been exceptional in that the leaves have changed color very slowly, allowing the aspens to turn nearly as red as Maple trees. The prettiest fall I've experienced since I moved to Colorado about 15 years ago.
This is a slideshow of some of the shots I took over the last few weeks on my solo journeys through the Rockies.
The images were all captured on a Canon EOS 50D frame and a Canon image-stabilized, ultra-sonic telescopic zoom lens - either the EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM or the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM.
This slideshow features a song by Coldplay called Every Teardrop is a Waterfall.
The images are compiled into a 9 Meg (3:40 Adobe Flash slideshow (2011_fall.swf) that you should be able to open and view with any browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.). To view the slideshow, just click on the photo above. If you want to view the slideshow as a Windows executable, you can play this version (2011_fall.exe), and it allows you to play, pause, skip forward, backwards, etc.
Image post-processing was done in Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended. The slideshow was created using Imagematics Stillmotion Pro.
Lyrics and route in the extended entry.

"Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall"
I turn the music up, I got my records on
I shut the world outside until the lights come on
Maybe the streets alight, maybe the trees are gone
I feel my heart start beating to my favourite song
And all the kids they dance, all the kids all night
Until Monday morning feels another life
I turn the music up
I'm on a roll this time
And heaven is in sight
I turn the music up, I got my records on
From underneath the rubble sing a rebel song
Don't want to see another generation drop
I'd rather be a comma than a full stop
Maybe I'm in the black, maybe I'm on my knees
Maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapezes
But my heart is beating and my pulses start
Cathedrals in my heart
As we saw oh this light I swear you, emerge blinking into
To tell me it's alright
As we soar walls, every siren is a symphony
And every tear's a waterfall
Is a waterfall
Oh
Is a waterfall
Oh oh oh
Is a is a waterfall
Every tear
Is a waterfall
Oh oh oh
So you can hurt, hurt me bad
But still I'll raise the flag
Oh
It was a wa wa wa wa wa-aterfall
A wa wa wa wa wa-aterfall
Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall
Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall
