Importing Photos into iPad 3 using CCK (Camera Connection Kit)
For those of you trying to import photos into an iPad 3 using the CCK, I've figured out what the file naming standard is. It's ########.jpg. It doesn't matter what the first 8 characters are. They can be numeric, alpha, underscore...it doesn't really seem to care. But it wants 8 characters. Not 7. Not 9. Exactly 8. So, maybe this will help others. I use IRFanView to rename my photos so that I can shoe-horn them into the iPad.
Also, I've been toying with the idea of using the iPad in the field to strip photos from the camera. This is not a bad idea, and it works fairly well. I can download them into the iPad, but leave a copy in the camera. Then, if I try to re-download them into the camera, it gives you the option to "Skip Duplicates", which I do. So, this is nice in that, at least the iPad isn't so stupid it will reimport the same photo without knowing. So, this is a nice feature, although I'm not certain how it would handle two different photos with the same file name, which can easily happen if you're shooting with multliple frames.
It also asks if you want to keep the photos in the camera or not. So, it appears to think it can delete them from the camera, although I'm not sure if this would work or not.
Tonight, I tried this and got the dreaded "Err 99" twice on a Canon EOS 50D while attempting to import photos. Yikes.
I've been told I should try using iTunes to load in the photos, and I'm not against this approach. Just didn't feel like tackling it tonight as I've got other fish to fry just now.

How about just using Flickr to store your photos?
