Above: Male Violet-Green Swallow (Tachycineta thalassina) feeds immature Pygmy Nuthatch (Sitta pygmaea) offspring in a birdhouse near Morrison, Colorado. As best as I can determine, the swallows live upstairs, and are possibly/probably a nesting pair. Both swallows leave the bird house at the same time, and the male has been observed to repeatedly feed the nuthatch brood in the level below them for reasons that are not clear to me. 7/5/2014.
