The Alaska Trip - 2014
I've been ordering a fair amount of gear in preparation for my next big motorcycle adventure. So far this is what I have ordered recently for the excursion. Some of it has arrived. Some of it hasn't shown up just yet:
- Garmin Montana 600 Waterproof Hiking GPS
- RAM mount for Garmin Montana 600 GPS
- Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector (Blue Display)
- Red Wing Irish Setter boots (camo)
- Frog Toggs rain gear (khaki)
- Frogg Toggs Neoprene gloves
- Givi E260 Monolock rear case with E650M Adapter plate
- Seagate Backup Plus Slim 1TB Portable External Hard Drive for Mac with Mobile Device Backup USB 3.0 (STDS1000100)
- Canon EOS 50D battery card door cover replacement part
- SanDisk 128GB microSDXC Ultra microSD 128G micro SDXC for GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition camera
- 4 - 32 GB TOPRAM - 300X COMPACT FLASH CF Card fit DSLR Canon EOS 50D
- 4 - BlackRapid FastenR-3 Lowest Profile Connector
- New Camera Helmet Front Adhesive Mount for Gopro Hero 3
- Front Lens Cap For Canon EF 100mm EF-S 17-85mm IS USM
- EyePiece Eye Cup For Canon EOS 50D
- CLEAR ~ Arai Helmet Shield Visor RX7 RR4 Quantum F Astral X Super AdSis L-Type
Of course, the problem is that I'm going to be trying to figure out how to use all of this gear on the road, essentially. I've never even bothered to read the owners manual on my motorcycle, so I only have a very narrow understanding of the digital instrument cluster on the KTM. Throw in a new GPS, radar detector, GoPro setup, new Seagate backup unit for the MacBook Air...I'll just be sort of winging it, I'm sure. We'll see how it goes. I think I have enough gear on order for the adventure to be a success, but whether I make it up there and back or not is anyone's guess. There's a lot that can go wrong, of course. The bike could break down, I could hit a moose, or end up in a Canadian prison. But if I were a betting man, I'd bet that I make it up there.
