LUMBERTON - A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday after running into the back of a truck hauling a horse on Interstate 95, the Highway Patrol said.
The driver of the truck had slowed to get into the weigh station lane when the motorcycle hit it from behind, according to a report by Trooper C.S. Covington, who investigated the case. The wreck happened about 1.5 miles north of Lumberton.
The motorcyclist, Alistar John Farland, 24, was ejected. He was pronounced dead at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, the patrol said. Farland had an Australian driver's license, and his motorcycle was registered in Anchorage, Alaska.
The driver of the truck, Scott William Alexander, 60, was traveling below the speed limit, the patrol said. The motorcycle was traveling 65 mph and did not appear to brake, the patrol said.
No charges will be filed.
