Ground Squirrels Hibernate for the Winter

Yesterday, when I was coming back from my ride across Boreas Pass, I stopped to feed the chipmunks and ground squirrels at the Phoenix Mine. Although there were plenty of Least Chipmunks (roughly 7), there were no Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrels. This was the 2nd time I made this observation. It bothered me enough that I looked it up and it appears that the Ground Squirrels have gone into hibernation, but the Least Chipmunks do not hibernate.

I'm not sure when the Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrels went into hibernation, but the last photo I took of them was September 6th, 2022. My best guess as to when they went into hibernation would be around September 1st, 2022.
