2023 Leafers
So today, I figured I'd go out and check out the Fall foliage. It's October 2nd, 2023, and I figure if I don't get up there, I'm going to miss it. All we need is a little cold spell and the leaves will be on the ground. So, I took the Jeep Wrangler TJ and went out US Hwy 285 and exited on the south side of US Highway 285 at Kenosha Pass. I believe I've ridden to the summit of the North Twin Cone Peak, but it's been a while and it might have been on an ATV or a dirt bike, I can't recall for certain.
Update: OK. Here's when I went up to the summit of North Twin Cone Peak. It was 18 years ago on one of the ATV's.

So this time, I take the Jeep up Park County Road 126 until I get to the switch backs on North Twin Cone Peak, and then I turn around. I take lots of photos of the beautiful Aspen trees turning a yellow-orangeish color, and then head back out to US Highway 285 and head north, back down into Grant. At Grant, I turn north onto Park County Road 62 (Guanella Pass Road).
As I head north on Guanella Pass Road, I see a bunch of cars stopped, so I stop to see what's going on. And there's a large bull moose over there laying on the ground like it's no big deal. Lots of people are taking photos of him, but I keep my distance. I've been charged by a mule deer once. I hit a mule deer on my motorcycle once. Elk are much larger than deer. And moose are much larger than elk.
The colors are rich and vibrant and there's not much traffic on Guanella Pass (unlike the countless leafers on the weekends).
It rains on me a little at some point, so I roll down into Georgetown, then on I-70 to Idaho Springs, then home. I get home, and put the cats indoors for the evening. I was really glad that I got out and saw the vibrant Fall foliage. It will be snowing before you know it, and there are only a few days a week where we're able to get out and watch the Fall foliage without countless leafers jamming US Hwy 285 and I-70.
My ride looked something like this:
